I'm having the same issue, except that I am using network booting for the clients. My master has 2 ethernet cards, one for the internal network and one for the external. Traditionally, you set the default gateway for the system according to the needs of the external card. If I do this, the clients boot fine, and appear to associate with each other. However, when I run tyd -f init on the master, it complains that the gateway is not available from this adapter. Of course it isn't available; it's on a different network! Conversely, if I set the master's default gateway to itself, tyd works with the same issues you found, but none of the client nodes can find the master on tftp.... so none of the clients can boot.
Agh! I agree that the problem is likely gateway related; but there MUST be some way to run clusterknoppix on a system with two network cards! ...... 必须有gateway,而且一定要有two network cards !
